Section titled “Not a Medical Device”Vitamem is a software developer library for conversation memory management. It is not a medical device, clinical decision support system, or healthcare product.
Vitamem is not intended to:
- Diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition
- Replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment
- Store or process Protected Health Information (PHI) as a covered entity under HIPAA
Developer Responsibility
Section titled “Developer Responsibility”If you are building a health or wellness application using Vitamem, you (the developer) are responsible for:
- Ensuring your application complies with applicable laws and regulations, including HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, and any other relevant privacy laws
- Implementing appropriate security measures, including encryption at rest and in transit
- Establishing Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with your storage providers if handling PHI
- Including your own privacy policy and terms of service
- Adding appropriate safety disclaimers in your application’s user interface
- Directing users to seek professional medical advice for clinical decisions
Recommended Safety Notice for Applications
Section titled “Recommended Safety Notice for Applications”Include a notice like the following in any application you build with Vitamem:

For medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, always consult a qualified healthcare professional. In case of a medical emergency, call your local emergency services immediately.
Mental Health Applications
Section titled “Mental Health Applications”Applications providing mental health support should additionally:
- Display crisis hotline information prominently (e.g., 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the US)
- Not position the AI as a replacement for therapy or psychiatric care
- Be transparent with users about the AI’s limitations
No Warranties
Section titled “No Warranties”Vitamem is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The authors and contributors are not liable for any harm arising from use of this library or applications built with it.
